Ge Haijiao, Chairman of Bank of China, held a working meeting with Nadia Fettah Alaoui, Morocco's Minister of Economy and Finance, in Casablanca on September 14 local time.

During the discussions, Ge noted that this year commemorates the tenth anniversary of the strategic partnership between China and Morocco. Guided by the vision of both nations' leaders, bilateral economic and trade collaboration has advanced steadily, enhancing the value of their strategic ties. He emphasized that Bank of China regards Morocco as a vital gateway for deepening its footprint in North Africa, extending reach into West Africa, and bridging economic ties between Europe and Africa. The bank established its Morocco representative office in 2016, becoming the first Chinese financial institution to set up operations in the Casablanca Finance City.

In recent years, Bank of China has actively supported Chinese enterprises operating in Morocco and consistently worked to build financial cooperation bridges between the two countries. Ge reaffirmed that the bank will remain closely aligned with the broader strategic cooperation framework, leveraging its global network and integrated service capabilities to proactively support Morocco's industrial transformation and upgrade. The bank aims to bolster two-way trade and investment flows, explore bilateral financial innovation and capital market connectivity, and contribute to the further growth of the China-Morocco strategic partnership.

Minister Alaoui highlighted Morocco's strong commitment to its relationship with China, citing complementary development strategies and vast cooperation potential. She acknowledged Bank of China's long-standing presence in the Moroccan market and its contributions to local economic and social development. Alaoui expressed hope that the bank would continue to leverage its global service network and professional expertise to intensify support in key strategic projects, green transition, and capital market connectivity, injecting renewed financial momentum into the bilateral strategic partnership.
