The 2026 Zhejiang Provincial City Basketball League (ZheBA) is scheduled to begin in late June and run through January 2027. Compared to the inaugural event, the 2026 ZheBA will feature significant upgrades. The provincial championship tournament will expand from 22 to 28 teams, including 11 city-level combined teams and 17 county-level representative teams, adding six new participants over the previous edition. The city-level qualifying rounds will continue to cover all 90 counties across the province, with each region forming teams to ensure "every county has a team and the entire region participates."
Qualifying matches at the city level must be completed by August 23. The top team from each prefecture-level city will advance directly to the provincial championship. In addition, six populous cities—Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Jinhua, Taizhou, and Jiaxing—will also see their second-place qualifying teams earn advancement. Furthermore, each prefecture-level city may form a combined team by selecting the best athletes from the remaining participating counties within its jurisdiction, bringing the total number of teams in the provincial championship to 28.
The competition format also introduces several highlights. City-level qualifiers will adopt a home-and-away system, with regions free to choose either a single or double round-robin format. The 28 teams in the provincial championship will be divided into four groups of seven, competing in a home-and-away double round-robin format. The top four teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage. In the elimination rounds, the round of 16, quarterfinals, and semifinals will all follow a best-of-three home-and-away format, while the finals will be a best-of-five series. The decisive final game will be held at the Huanglong Sports Center Gymnasium.
Player eligibility will continue to uphold the purity of "grassroots basketball." All participants must be male Chinese citizens born on or before May 31, 2008, and meet either birthplace or "household registration plus two years of social security" requirements. Professional players from leagues such as the CBA, NBL, and men's 3x3 basketball, as well as athletes from professional youth teams and college players who have participated in the CUBAL First Division or higher, are prohibited from competing to ensure the event remains accessible and fair.
