Baker Hughes has been awarded a contract to supply natural gas compression and power generation technology for the ST LNG proposed offshore liquefied natural gas export terminal near Matagorda, Texas. The terminal is planned to have an annual production capacity of 8.4 million tons.

Under the agreement, Baker Hughes will provide two LM6000PF gas turbine-driven centrifugal compressor trains and three NovaLT16 gas turbine generator sets for the first phase of the project. As part of a plan to develop the project in four phases, the initial phase is expected to have a capacity of 2.1 million tons per year.

The project is located in U.S. federal waters and is advancing toward a final investment decision. Baker Hughes is expected to confirm orders related to the agreement as the project progresses.

The proposed terminal will include up to four liquefaction trains installed on fixed platforms, each with a nominal capacity of 2.1 million tons per year. The initial production target for the first phase is set for the mid-2030s.

Sharad Thakur, CEO of ST LNG, stated, "As we advance the first phase toward completion, selecting proven technology from a reliable partner with deep domain expertise is critical. Baker Hughes' extensive experience in LNG projects, including complex offshore environments, gives us confidence that the ST LNG facility can achieve its first LNG shipment by the second quarter of 2030."

He added, "Their ability to provide comprehensive equipment solutions, combined with their commitment to supporting project development, is a key enabler for advancing our deepwater LNG port."

Lorenzo Simonelli, Chairman and CEO of Baker Hughes, commented, "Our portfolio of LNG solutions is designed to support a wide range of operational needs, from large-scale onshore facilities to specialized offshore applications like ST LNG. We look forward to working closely with ST LNG to deliver reliable, efficient, and low-carbon solutions."
