Minsheng Bank Posts 1H 2026 Profit Drop Despite Margin Improvement; Declares Interim Cash Dividend

China Minsheng Banking Corp., Ltd. (Minsheng Bank) released its unaudited results for the six months ended 30 June 2026, highlighting modest revenue growth but lower earnings amid higher credit costs.

Financial Highlights • Operating income rose 4.23% year on year to RMB 73.70 billion, supported by a 6.87% increase in net interest income to RMB 52.58 billion. • Net interest margin widened to 1.47%, up eight basis points from 1.39% a year earlier, reflecting lower funding costs. • Net profit attributable to equity shareholders declined 8.62% to RMB 19.54 billion, as credit impairment losses surged 20.81% to RMB 31.46 billion. • Basic earnings per share fell to RMB 0.40 from RMB 0.45 in 1H 2025.

Balance-Sheet Dynamics • Total assets edged down 0.49% since end-2025 to RMB 7.79 trillion; loans and advances expanded 1.79% to RMB 4.51 trillion, now 57.86% of total assets. • Customer deposits rose 2.70% to RMB 4.39 trillion, lifting the deposit share of total liabilities to 62.07%. • The loan-to-deposit mix continued to improve, while the bank trimmed lower-yielding investment assets.

Asset Quality and Provisions • Non-performing loan balance stood at RMB 66.32 billion, up RMB 0.17 billion from end-2025; the NPL ratio eased two basis points to 1.47%. • Allowance coverage reached 142.19%, up 0.15 percentage points, as total loan-loss reserves rose to RMB 94.31 billion.

Capital & Liquidity • Capital adequacy ratio improved to 13.36% (end-2025: 13.06%); core tier-1 ratio was 9.42%. • Liquidity coverage ratio remained robust at 134.11%, above the 100% regulatory minimum. • Net stable funding ratio stood at 105.94%.

Operational Developments • Corporate loan book grew 5.64% to RMB 2.91 trillion, driven by targeted support for small- and medium-sized enterprises and key sectors such as green, inclusive, and sci-tech finance. • Retail loans fell 4.24% to RMB 1.59 trillion amid cautious mortgage demand and controlled consumer lending. • Branch network counted 2,379 outlets across 142 mainland cities; overseas presence comprised branches in Hong Kong and London.

Shareholder Returns • The board approved an interim cash dividend of RMB 1.18 (tax inclusive) per 10 shares, equating to a payout of roughly RMB 5.17 billion, or 29.78% of first-half ordinary-share profit.

Governance & Outlook Minsheng Bank reported solid liquidity and capital buffers while reiterating its commitment to “stabilising growth, optimising structure, strengthening foundation, and enhancing quality and effectiveness.” Management plans to deepen engagement with SMEs, advance digital transformation, and maintain disciplined risk controls to support steady, high-quality development in the second half of 2026.
