SpaceX Sets Sights on Enterprise AI Market Following Space Conquest

After successfully conquering the space domain, Elon Musk's SpaceX is now targeting a new growth engine—the enterprise artificial intelligence market. The aerospace giant recently entered into a deep collaboration with AI programming startup Cursor, aiming squarely at the enterprise software sector valued at trillions of dollars.

The company is making a substantial bet on AI programming. According to an agreement announced by SpaceX this Tuesday, the firm has secured an option to acquire Cursor for $60 billion later this year or pay $10 billion to fund their partnership. SpaceX stated on social platform X that the two are "working closely to build the world's top-tier coding and knowledge work AI," integrating Cursor's products for software engineers and its distribution channels with SpaceX's self-developed Colossus supercomputing capabilities.

Cursor is a standout product in the AI programming tool space, having rapidly captured the developer market with its efficient code generation and debugging features, and previously reached a valuation of $29.3 billion. Analysts believe this move will help SpaceX complete an ecosystem loop encompassing "computing power + models + tools."

The strategy paves the way for what could be the largest IPO in history. SpaceX has confidentially filed for an initial public offering, planning to list in the second half of 2026 with a target valuation as high as $1.75 trillion to $2 trillion. Previously, SpaceX merged with Musk's xAI, constructing a dual-driver narrative combining aerospace and AI.

However, SpaceX issued a warning to investors in its S-1 filing, noting that plans such as its space AI data centers "involve significant technical complexity" and may not achieve commercial viability. Additionally, neither xAI nor Cursor currently possesses self-developed large models capable of rivaling OpenAI, meaning core technologies still rely on external sources.

Despite these challenges, Musk's intention to integrate Cursor is clear: to demonstrate ecosystem synergies during the IPO roadshow, supporting its high valuation expectations, while laying the groundwork for large-scale expansion into the enterprise AI market.
