Alphabet Announces Image Processing Program Access for All Users as Adobe Responds Urgently

Alphabet has claimed ownership of a viral image processing program that has created significant waves across the internet, marking a challenging day for Adobe.

Alphabet announced on Tuesday that Google DeepMind developed the model and integrated it into the Gemini application and website, making it accessible to all users. The model, initially tested under the codename "Nano Banana," has now been officially named Gemini 2.5 Flash.

Alphabet has been testing the new model on the LMArena platform, a public website that collects anonymous feedback on AI model quality. Although the testing was conducted under the "Nano Banana" name, users quickly speculated that Alphabet was the developer behind the technology.

According to Alphabet, Gemini 2.5 Flash's core advantage lies in its ability to maintain consistent characteristics of people or animals across different images. Based on existing feedback data and using the Elo rating system that measures the relative performance of generative models, Alphabet claims that user preference for the new model has surpassed that of OpenAI and other competitors.

This development could pose a significant threat to existing image processing programs, particularly Adobe's Photoshop and similar products.

Adobe responded urgently on Tuesday, announcing immediate integration of Alphabet's new model into Adobe Firefly and Adobe Express. Addressing questions about "why users wouldn't simply use Alphabet's tools directly instead of Adobe's," the company emphasized its advantage in providing comprehensive one-stop model integration services.

However, this move has not effectively alleviated investor concerns. Adobe's stock price has declined 35% cumulatively over the past year, partly due to analyst worries about AI's impact on traditional tool markets.
