Whirlpool's stock experienced a 24-hour plunge of 15.95%, with the significant decline occurring in post-market trading. The appliance maker's shares came under heavy pressure following the release of its first-quarter financial results.

The company reported a net loss of $85 million for the quarter, a sharp reversal from a profit in the prior-year period. Net sales fell 9.6% to $3.27 billion, missing analyst estimates. Management attributed the weak performance to a "recession-level U.S. industry decline," which it directly linked to the war in Iran and a collapse in consumer confidence.

In response to the challenging environment, Whirlpool slashed its full-year earnings guidance roughly in half and announced the suspension of its common dividend to prioritize debt reduction. The company also revealed plans to implement its largest price increase in a decade to address multi-year inflationary cost pressures. Additionally, a recent Supreme Court tariff ruling was cited as having disrupted industry pricing and negatively impacted first-quarter sales.
