This year, Shanghai's foreign trade export structure has continued to optimize. As one of the "new three categories," safe, clean, and environmentally friendly lithium batteries have maintained strong export growth momentum over the long term.
At the Shanghai Customs Industrial Products and Raw Materials Testing Technology Center, lithium batteries undergoing inspection face rigorous "extreme tests." The on-site simulations include drop tests, impact tests, vibration tests, and high-low temperature conditions that replicate extreme situations during transportation. Export lithium batteries must pass 8 tests across 3 major categories before they can be shipped overseas.
Driven by the rapid development of new energy vehicles and new energy storage industries, international market demand for lithium batteries has shown explosive growth. In a storage product manufacturing workshop located in Pudong, battery cells are being assembled in an orderly manner on production lines. Subsequently, rows of lithium-ion battery packs are packaged and boxed, then loaded onto vehicles for overseas shipment after passing inspection and certification by customs officers.
According to the company's customs affairs manager, in recent years, global demand for renewable energy has been enormous, driving the company's energy storage products to be sold to over 60 countries and regions worldwide, with leading market shares in parts of Europe, Australia, North America, and the Asia-Pacific region.
Lithium batteries are classified as dangerous goods, and transportation conditions are particularly stringent during high-temperature seasons. Customs authorities have innovated regulatory models, compressing clearance time by more than 80%.
Shanghai Customs statistics show that in the first seven months of this year, lithium battery exports through Shanghai ports reached 86.09 billion yuan, representing a year-on-year increase of 12.1%. Additionally, exports of industrial robots and high-end machine tools both achieved double-digit growth, with the proportion of higher value-added energy storage battery exports rising significantly. The improvement in export "new content" has made Shanghai's foreign trade highly resilient.
