Hong Kong Stocks Open Higher: Hang Seng Index Rises 0.68% on Gold and Pharma Strength

Hong Kong stocks kicked off the trading day on a positive note on September 3, with the benchmark Hang Seng Index gaining 0.68% to open at 25,482.56 points. The Hang Seng Tech Index climbed 0.71% to 4,549.36 points, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index advanced 0.75% to 8,513.12 points. Pre-market turnover reached approximately HK$3.113 billion.

Pharmaceutical stocks showed strong momentum, with Innovent Biologics (01801) surging over 3%, ranking among the top gainers in the Hang Seng Index constituents. JD Health (06618) rose more than 2%, while WuXi AppTec (02359) gained over 1%.

Gold-related stocks also moved higher, as Shandong Gold Mining (01787) advanced more than 3%, with Chifeng Jilong Gold Mining (06693) and Laopu Gold (06181) both climbing over 2%. Zijin Mining Group (02899) added more than 1%.

Technology stocks traded actively, with Lenovo Group (00992) jumping over 3%, NetEase (09999) gaining nearly 2%, and Tencent Holdings (00700) advancing more than 1%. In the semiconductor sector, SMIC (00981) rose over 1%, while Hua Hong Semiconductor (01347) gained close to 1%. AI-related concept stocks showed mixed performance.

On the news front, all three major US indices closed higher overnight, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average rising 0.56%, the S&P 500 gaining 0.46%, and the Nasdaq advancing 0.45%. US AI hardware stocks were particularly strong, with Nvidia surging 3.21%, Micron climbing 2.43%, and Dell jumping 15.81%. Spot gold gained approximately 1.4%, approaching $4,400 per ounce. Driven by the overnight gains in the US tech sector and rising gold prices, Hong Kong stocks opened broadly higher across the board.
