EU Antitrust Chief Meets Tech Leaders During AI Regulation Scrutiny

European Commission schedules indicate that EU antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager, who has previously expressed concerns about large technology companies extending their dominance into the artificial intelligence sector, will meet on Tuesday with the CEOs of Alphabet, Meta Platforms, and OpenAI.

This marks her first meeting with Sundar Pichai, Mark Zuckerberg, and Sam Altman in San Francisco. The discussions are part of Vestager's week-long visit to the United States, during which she is also scheduled to deliver a speech at an American Bar Association conference on Friday.

She will also meet with Amazon.com CEO Andy Jassy on Wednesday.

Vestager has launched multiple investigations into the business practices of Google and Meta. Earlier this month, she indicated that her office is reviewing the entire AI technology ecosystem, including AI chatbots, data used to train models, and cloud computing infrastructure.

The European Commission, which serves as the EU's competition enforcement body, stated that risks are emerging as dominant companies prioritize their own AI services on their platforms, potentially sidelining competitors.

Major technology firms, including OpenAI, Nvidia, Meta, and Google, have invested billions of dollars in AI infrastructure to keep up with rapidly growing market demand.
