SoftBank Corp revealed on Tuesday that its subsidiary, Saimemory, has entered into a partnership with Intel Corporation to pioneer a new category of memory chip technology.

Shares of Intel jumped 2.81% in overnight trading on the news.

The collaboration will focus on commercializing "Z-Angle operation memory technology," targeting the creation of chips that offer high capacity, substantial bandwidth, and low power consumption.

According to a statement from Softbank, the technology is being developed specifically for use in artificial intelligence data centers, where high-speed memory is a critical component due to the immense computational demands of running generative AI models.

Softbank Corp, a publicly listed entity of SoftBank Group Corp (TYO:9984), serves as the primary operating company for the conglomerate, which had previously agreed to invest $2 billion in Intel in mid-2025.

This announcement emerges as Intel intensifies its efforts to strengthen its chip portfolio and narrow the gap with competitors in the rapidly expanding AI sector.

As part of the agreement, Saimemory will utilize Intel's next-generation DRAM bonding initiative, with the objective of producing prototypes by early 2028 at the latest.
