Why Did First Half Performance Decline? China Zheshang Bank Assistant President Hou Bo: Three Main Contributing Factors

On August 29th, China Zheshang Bank held its 2025 interim results briefing. Addressing the dual decline in revenue and profit during the first half of this year, China Zheshang Bank Assistant President Hou Bo indicated that the performance decline was primarily attributed to three factors.

First, subjective factors. "When preparing our budget at the beginning of the year, based on our assessment of the overall internal and external economic environment, as well as our bank's own high-quality development requirements, we proactively lowered our targets for asset growth, revenue, and profit growth during the initial budgeting process," Hou Bo explained.

Second, the entire industry's net interest margin remains in a downward trajectory, resulting in volume unable to compensate for price declines, leading to a decrease in net interest income.

Third, from a non-interest income perspective, last year the overall market conditions were favorable, with government bond yields primarily trending downward. However, the first half of this year experienced volatile market conditions with an upward bias. Consequently, non-interest income also declined compared to the same period last year.
