Hong Kong stocks opened lower but staged a solid recovery during Tuesday morning trading, with all three major indices finishing the half-day session in positive territory. The Hang Seng Index climbed 0.35% to 24,893.11, the Hang Seng Tech Index advanced 0.17%, and the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 0.4%.

Internet technology stocks displayed mixed momentum with a positive tilt, as Lenovo surged over 4% and Xiaomi gained more than 2%, while Baidu added over 1%. On the flip side, both Kuaishou and Alibaba slipped by more than 1%.

Innovative drug developers emerged as notable gainers, with Lepu Biopharma advancing more than 6%. The sector's strength reflects sustained high-level activity as mid-year earnings reports from both domestic and international contract research organizations continue to validate the industry's robust trajectory. Guojin Securities noted that overseas CXO companies releasing their 2026 interim results have shown marked improvements in second-quarter order intake, with preclinical book-to-bill metrics strengthening considerably and most firms upgrading their full-year guidance. On the domestic front, WuXi AppTec delivered results that substantially surpassed market expectations while also raising its annual revenue forecast significantly.

Auto stocks remained active, highlighted by NIO's gain of more than 2%. GAC Group's A-shares were suspended for the full trading day on September 14 pending a material announcement, while its H-shares spiked 8.64% to HK$2.325 in early bidding before also being halted temporarily. The company confirmed the suspension was triggered by an urgent development, stating that a significant announcement would be released after market close, though specific details were not yet disclosed. This activity follows the National Development and Reform Commission's September 11 statement expressing support for large automotive groups to pursue reform through market-based merger and reorganization initiatives. The commission encouraged leading enterprises to consolidate R&D and production resources, aiming to reduce homogeneous competition in product design and technological development.

Semiconductor stocks weakened, with Longsys Electronics falling more than 8%. This downturn wasn't precipitated by earnings disappointments or sudden regulatory filings. Instead, the trigger originated from an initiative released by leading AI laboratories in Silicon Valley, as Anthropic, in collaboration with OpenAI, proposed establishing boundaries on the pace of development for frontier AI models. The framework draws from an essay by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei titled "We Must Pace the Frontier," which received rapid endorsement from OpenAI regarding its core proposals, with xAI also publicly expressing support.
