An international strongman competition and a cultural and sports extravaganza are energizing Tongzhou's rural nighttime cultural tourism market.
A major sports and entertainment festival, the 2026 Lulang Peak Power Feast, has launched at Chaopan Park in Lucheng Town, Tongzhou District. The event brings together strength athletes from multiple countries, trendy marketplaces, and interactive public activities. It successfully blends professional competition with public leisure, filling a gap for large-scale international cultural and sports events in the region. The "sports + cultural tourism + consumption" model is injecting vitality into rural revitalization and the development of the nighttime economy in the city's sub-center.
As one of Tongzhou District's higher-profile and multi-faceted public cultural and sports activities this year, the festival breaks the mold of single-discipline competition. It integrates strength demonstrations, trendy photo spots, specialty foods, and public fun challenges, achieving a deep fusion of professional events, public entertainment, cultural tourism consumption, and mass fitness.
On the competition stage, top strength athletes from over a dozen countries globally and various Chinese provinces showcased their skills. Multiple Guinness World Record holders competed, with events like dumbbell presses, farmer's walks, and iron man carries taking place in succession. Contestant Tang Zihua, competing in the 105kg category, traveled from Yunnan to participate. He noted it was his first time in Tongzhou's Lucheng area, praising the spacious venue and the enthusiastic local residents. He was adjusting his competitive form for three events that day, setting a personal goal of at least a second-place finish. The spectacle of professional athletes competing side-by-side vividly displayed the competitive appeal of strength sports and attracted large crowds of local spectators.
The surrounding festival marketplaces buzzed with activity, featuring an orderly array of popular online-famous snacks, local delicacies, and summer beverage stalls. Foods like lamb skewers, ice cream, and stinky tofu catered to the leisure needs of visitors. Local Lucheng resident Hui Qiang came specifically to watch and enjoy the event: "There have been few international-level strength sports competitions locally before. This event serves as both a sports exchange platform and a window for Lucheng to showcase itself to the outside world."
The event featured fun challenge competitions designed for all age groups, lowering the barrier to public participation. Both adults and children could experience the fun of strength sports, creating a leisure carnival scene accessible to everyone. The event was live-streamed simultaneously across multiple online platforms to extend its reach. A full day of professional strength competitions was also held on July 13th.
Officials from Lucheng Town explained that hosting this international cultural and sports festival is a local implementation of the national fitness strategy and a practice to activate rural cultural tourism. The event gathered tourists and online influencers from various regions, boosting local餐饮,餐饮 leisure consumption. It revitalized underutilized ecological and cultural tourism resources at Chaopan Park and the collective forest farm, energizing the township's nighttime and weekend cultural tourism market.
