European equity markets advanced as risk appetite improved, with overall positive corporate results bolstering market sentiment. Within the Stoxx Europe 600 Index, 15 out of 20 industry sectors recorded gains.

The Stoxx Europe 600 Index rose 0.6% in London. Basic resources and utilities sectors led the advance, while the technology sector underperformed, declining by 0.5%.

Shares of Airbus surged 6.9%, marking their largest gain in two months, following the release of robust financial targets. Randstad emerged as the top performer within the Stoxx 600, with its stock jumping 14% after reporting second-quarter revenue and organic growth that exceeded expectations.

Energy stocks climbed as Brent crude prices rose to around $94 per barrel, reaching their highest level since mid-June. This move followed a warning from former U.S. President Donald Trump on Truth Social, stating that the U.S. would retaliate if Iran fired upon ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

Amanda Lyons, Head of Research at Energy Group Capital, noted that given the significant role of Alphabet throughout the AI investment cycle, its earnings report, scheduled for later on Wednesday, would serve as a crucial test for market sentiment.

Market attention on Thursday is expected to pivot towards the European Central Bank's interest rate decision. Policymakers are likely to evaluate the inflationary impact stemming from the substantial increase in Brent crude prices over the past two weeks.
