China's Industrial Power Generation Rises 2.6% Year-on-Year in April

According to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, in April, the production of raw coal by industrial enterprises above designated size remained at a high level. The growth rates of crude oil and power production accelerated, while natural gas production saw a steady increase.

Specifically, the output of raw coal by industrial enterprises above designated size in April was 390 million tons, a decrease of 1.0% year-on-year, compared to a flat performance in March. The daily average output was 12.85 million tons.

The growth rate of crude oil production accelerated. In April, crude oil output reached 17.94 million tons, up 1.2% year-on-year, with the growth rate increasing by 1.0 percentage points from March. The daily average output was 598,000 tons.

The decline in crude oil processing widened. In April, crude oil processing volume was 54.65 million tons, down 5.8% year-on-year, with the decline widening by 3.6 percentage points from March. The daily average processing volume was 1.822 million tons.

Natural gas production maintained steady growth. In April, natural gas output was 21.9 billion cubic meters, up 1.9% year-on-year, though the growth rate slowed by 1.1 percentage points from March. The daily average output was 730 million cubic meters.

Regarding power production, the growth rate of electricity generated by industrial enterprises above designated size accelerated. In April, power generation reached 744.0 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 2.6%, with the growth rate accelerating by 1.2 percentage points from March. The daily average generation was 24.80 billion kilowatt-hours.

From January to April, cumulative power generation by industrial enterprises above designated size amounted to 3,123.7 billion kilowatt-hours, up 3.3% year-on-year.

By energy source, in April, the growth rates of thermal power and solar power generation slowed, while hydropower growth accelerated. The declines in nuclear and wind power generation narrowed. Specifically, thermal power generation increased by 3.1% year-on-year, with growth slowing by 1.1 percentage points from March. Hydropower generation grew by 12.2%, accelerating by 1.4 percentage points. Nuclear power generation fell by 8.7%, with the decline narrowing by 3.1 percentage points. Wind power generation decreased by 5.0%, with the decline narrowing by 12.3 percentage points. Solar power generation rose by 7.1%, though growth slowed by 2.9 percentage points.
