Intel Slashes Jobs Again: Chip Giant Cuts 52 Positions at Santa Clara Headquarters

Intel is set to carry out a fresh round of permanent layoffs at its Santa Clara headquarters region in California on September 30, 2026, eliminating a total of 52 manufacturing and operations roles, according to WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act) documents disclosed by California officials, signaling a clear intent to adjust its business.

The job cuts span four office campuses in Santa Clara, with the reductions distributed as follows: the Robert Noyce building at 2200 Mission College Boulevard will lose 22 positions, the SC-12 campus at 3600 Juliette Lane will shed 24 roles, and the remaining two locations will together cut 6 jobs.

As the home of Intel's global headquarters, Santa Clara serves as the brand's core hub for research and development, operations, and production. This round of layoffs focuses precisely on the manufacturing and operations segments and constitutes a permanent reduction of positions rather than a temporary staffing adjustment, marking the latest move by Intel Corp (NASDAQ: INTC) to continue streamlining its organization and optimizing its capacity structure.

In recent years, Intel Corp (NASDAQ: INTC) has pressed ahead with internal reforms, trimming redundant structures, compressing management layers, and optimizing its workforce composition to concentrate on core high-value businesses. The latest position reductions are a continuation of that strategic optimization.

Lip-Bu Tan's public remarks: admiration for Morris Chang, deep ties with TSMC

Even as it shrinks internally, Intel Corp (NASDAQ: INTC) is making its external industry cooperation landscape increasingly clear. Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan recently spoke publicly in an interview about the company's relationship with industry leader TSMC, sending a significant friendly signal.

Tan said outright that he greatly admires TSMC founder Morris Chang and highly recognizes his outstanding contributions to the development of the global semiconductor industry. He stressed clearly that Intel Corp (NASDAQ: INTC) has always maintained close and deep cooperation with TSMC, currently ranks among TSMC's top ten global customers, and will continue to sustain this core partnership going forward.

On the core logic of competition and cooperation in the industry, Tan offered a new perspective that differs from traditional rivalry. He said that even as he pursues breakthroughs for his own company's development, he never views peers as pure competitors. The semiconductor industry has never been a "zero-sum game," and no single company can cover every link in the entire industrial chain. Working together in groups and complementing each other's strengths is the core rule for the industry's long-term development, which is also the fundamental reason Intel Corp (NASDAQ: INTC) has always valued quality industry partners.
