Retail giant Wal-Mart and its subsidiary Sam's Club announced on Monday significant price reductions on thousands of popular summer items and daily essentials across the United States, covering categories including groceries, home goods, outdoor products, toys, and apparel.

Specific discounts include fresh sweet corn being lowered from $0.68 to $0.25, red cherries from $11.18 to $5.63, and 73% lean ground beef from $6.74 to $5.94, a reduction of approximately 12%. A 24-pack of Coca-Cola products is being reduced from $14.97 to $9.97, and Pepsi products from $13.97 to $9.97. Sam's Club is also lowering prices on over 250 items, including barbecue essentials like chicken wings, hot dogs, and pork ribs.

Wal-Mart US Chief Procurement Officer Julie Barber stated that the company is increasing its pricing investments to help customers save on frequently purchased summer goods.

However, the price cuts have drawn political attention. President Trump posted on Truth Social the same day, calling Wal-Mart a "truly patriotic company" and stating the price reductions were "at the request of my administration" to celebrate the nation's 250th anniversary. He also urged other retailers to follow the example of these "patriots."

Wal-Mart's official statement did not mention the Trump administration or any political factors. Media reports note that summer promotions are routine for chain supermarkets like Wal-Mart, with some discounts having been in effect for a week prior to Trump's post. Similar promotions on soda products were also conducted last summer.
