U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated on Thursday that Washington will impose sanctions on a major bank next week, without disclosing the institution's name or country.

"We will act on Monday, as we wish to honor the memory of our fellow citizens who perished on 9/11. Please pay close attention to Monday's developments," Bessent remarked during a television appearance, declining to identify the specific financial entity.

This announcement follows the Trump administration's earlier measures against a Dubai-based branch of Egypt's second-largest bank, which was accused of funneling $1.8 billion to Iran. The U.S. has rolled out a series of economic actions against Tehran since hostilities escalated in February, including sanctions.

Last month, the administration intensified pressure through what Bessent described as "Operation Economic Outcast," targeting nearly 60 entities, vessels, and individuals. Secondary sanctions have also been broadened to cover parties engaging in business with Iran across sectors like shipping and technology.
