Recently, delivery riders in cities like Chongqing have posted on social media about the challenges of delivering food to high-rise office buildings during peak lunch and dinner hours. In response, Meituan has formed a "Relay Delivery" team dedicated to handling internal building deliveries, helping riders complete the "last 100 meters" of the delivery process.

A station manager in Guanyinqiao, Jiangbei District, Chongqing, explained that the new model addresses common issues such as long elevator waits, difficulty locating addresses, and restricted building access. The manager noted, "By transferring deliveries to the building relay team, riders save about 10 minutes per order, reduce complaints, and can earn an extra 400–500 yuan per month. With 100 riders per station, total earnings increase by tens of thousands of yuan."

A Meituan delivery representative stated that the company has established dedicated product development and operational teams, procured necessary tools, and negotiated partnerships with property managers. Additionally, relay workers receive income subsidies, with initial investments exceeding 100 million yuan to ensure timely deliveries and higher earnings for both riders and relay staff.

The pilot program has expanded to cities including Xuzhou, Anshan, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou, making Meituan the first platform in the industry to implement relay delivery. Industry experts highlight that solving last-mile delivery challenges in commercial buildings improves user experience while easing the burden on riders, calling Meituan’s initiative the first systematic solution in the sector.
