June US Factory Orders Decline 0.3% Month-Over-Month, Missing Forecasts for 0.2% Growth

A 0.3% drop in June factory orders was reported by the US Census Bureau, falling short of the median estimate which had called for a 0.2% increase. A range of predictions from 31 economists spanned from a 1.0% decline to a 0.7% increase.

Data for May factory orders was revised, showing a decrease of 1.1% compared to the previously reported 1.3% decline. Excluding transportation, new orders in June fell by 0.4%, following a 2.0% gain in the prior month.

New orders for non-defense capital goods excluding aircraft registered a 1.2% increase in June, a slowdown from the 1.9% growth seen in May. Durable goods orders rose by 0.5% in June, a significant turnaround from the 4.0% decline recorded in May.
