Industry sources reported on Tuesday that Advanced Micro Devices CEO Lisa Su plans to tour Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.'s production lines in South Korea and meet with executives from the semiconductor division. According to insiders, Su is scheduled to visit Samsung's chip manufacturing base in Pyeongtaek, located approximately 60 kilometers south of Seoul, on Wednesday. She is expected to hold discussions with Jun Young-hyun, co-CEO in charge of the chip business, and Han Jin-man, head of Samsung's foundry operations. This visit marks Su's first trip to South Korea since assuming her role in 2014. Industry observers indicated that the two companies are likely to explore cooperation in the foundry sector, potentially expanding their collaboration beyond memory chips. Samsung Electronics has maintained a close business relationship with Advanced Micro Devices since 2025, supplying HBM3E for AMD's latest artificial intelligence solutions. The talks may include measures to utilize Samsung's production capacity for AMD's next-generation AI chips. If Samsung successfully secures Advanced Micro Devices as a new client, its foundry business could gain momentum, potentially enhancing profitability in a sector currently dominated by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. Sources also noted that Su may meet with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong during her visit.
