Four Missing After Landslide in Yunnan, Ministry Launches Emergency Response

A landslide incident in Fengshan Town, Fengqing County, Lincang City, Yunnan Province, on August 23 has left four people unaccounted for. In response, the Ministry of Natural Resources activated a Level IV geological disaster defense response for Yunnan at 2:00 PM on the same day and dispatched a working group to the site to guide rescue and relief operations.

The Ministry has directed the Yunnan Provincial Department of Natural Resources to immediately send an expert team to the scene to assist local authorities with personnel search and rescue efforts, as well as to provide technical support during the emergency operations. Additionally, the Ministry urged local authorities to learn from this incident and strengthen geological disaster inspections, monitoring, early warning systems, and preventive measures under similar conditions. The China Geological Survey and the Ministry's Geological Disaster Technical Guidance Center have been tasked with enhancing expert coordination, organizational support, and consultation and assessment efforts to fully assist in providing technical guidance.
