In the early winter of Nan Tianzhang Village, Guhan Town, Xiangyuan County, Changzhi City, Shanxi Province, a 700-acre apple plantation is bustling with activity. Bright red apples hang heavy on the branches, filling the air with their sweet fragrance. Visitors weave through the orchard, picking fresh fruit, while villagers busily weigh and pack the harvest. Children delight in the hands-on experience of fruit picking.

"Nan Tianzhang's apples are famous—big and sweet. I come here every year to pick them, and this time I brought friends along to share the experience," said Fu Sufei, a local resident, holding up a freshly picked apple.

What was once considered poor-quality farmland has now transformed into a thriving orchard. Years ago, the village consolidated fragmented plots, improved soil conditions, and introduced high-quality apple varieties, turning barren land into a productive asset.

"Our apples are well-shaped, smooth-skinned, and of excellent quality," said Ni Bin, an orchardist who manages 10 acres of land. With a yield of over 2,000 pounds per acre and a current farm-gate price of 5 yuan per pound, his apple sales alone are expected to bring in more than 100,000 yuan this year.

The village has also established a cooperative model linking "cooperative + base + farmers," shifting apple cultivation from scattered operations to large-scale production. Agricultural experts provide full-cycle guidance and technical training, while diversified services such as fruit-picking experiences and family-friendly activities help transition from simple fresh fruit sales to an integrated value chain.

"This year, the village's total apple output is estimated at over 600,000 pounds, with a production value exceeding 2 million yuan. On average, each farming household earns more than 80,000 yuan," said agricultural technician He Zhanhua, his voice brimming with satisfaction.

A small apple has thus become the thread weaving prosperity into the lives of Nan Tianzhang's families. Today, the village thrives on its fruit industry, enriching both individual households and the collective economy. The vibrant red apples symbolize not just wealth for farmers but also hope for rural revitalization, painting a picture of thriving industry, prosperous farmers, and a beautiful countryside.

Li Chuanfang, Party branch secretary and village committee director of Nan Tianzhang, stated that the village will further upgrade its industry under the guidance of Party-building efforts. Plans include improving apple varieties, building a distinctive brand, and expanding e-commerce sales channels to bring Nan Tianzhang apples beyond Changzhi and into markets nationwide.
