August 14, U.S. stocks closed higher, extending last week’s rebound. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.13%, the S&P 500 added 0.65% and the Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.81%, helped by continued enthusiasm for semiconductor shares ahead of next week’s NVIDIA earnings and as investors looked past soft retail-sales estimates.

Semiconductors dominated the leaderboard. SanDisk (SNDK) jumped 13.67% after a Wall Street Journal report pointed to stronger flash-memory pricing, while Western Digital (WDC) gained 7.31%. Micron (MU) rose 4.23% on upbeat peer commentary, and Super Micro (SMCI) added 4.12% as AI-server demand stayed strong. Tesla (TSLA) climbed 3.80% following price-cut chatter in China, Palantir (PLTR) rallied 4.66% amid ongoing AI buzz, and Meta Platforms (META) improved 2.78% after announcing new advertising tools. Among laggards, Coherent (COHR) fell 7.99% on a negative brokerage note, while Ondas (ONDS) slid 8.80% after a share-sale filing.

Broader movers were mixed. GDS Holdings (GDS) advanced 6.20% on data-center expansion news, Agora (API) picked up 7.81% after unveiling an AI-enabled video SDK, and Direxion’s MU-linked ETF (MUU) surged 8.66% alongside memory names. On the downside, JD.com (JD) fell 7.31% as Chinese e-commerce stocks remained under pressure, and PDD Holdings (PDD) slipped 5.46% on reports of heavier promotional spending.
