Guangzhou-Shenzhen CBD Areas Achieve One-Hour Commute Circle

The speed upgrade project for Guangzhou-Shenzhen Railway (Lines I and II) has been fully completed. Starting November 5, electric multiple unit (EMU) trains can operate at a maximum speed of 200 km/h.

After optimizing the train schedule, the fastest direct service between Guangzhou and Shenzhen now takes only 56 minutes. A total of 178 EMU trains—including both local and cross-line services—will run daily, an increase of 27 compared to pre-upgrade levels.

This development establishes a "one-hour commute circle" between the central business districts (CBDs) of Guangzhou (Tianhe CBD) and Shenzhen (Futian CBD and Luohu District).

In terms of frequency, daily train services have increased to 178, averaging one every 13 minutes, with the shortest interval reduced to just 5 minutes. Stations such as Guangzhou North and Guangzhou Xintang have also seen increased departures, creating a "turn-up-and-go" urban rail transit model.
