Chris Malon, a former senior executive at OpenAI who led the company's large-scale data center construction efforts, has joined NVIDIA (NVDA) this month as Vice President of the DSX platform, according to his LinkedIn profile.
DSX is a business unit under NVIDIA that helps customers design and build AI data centers in accordance with NVIDIA's technical specifications.
According to reports, Malon left OpenAI in August of this year. The AI company, which plans to go public in 2027, has recently been experiencing a wave of executive departures.
Malon joined OpenAI in early 2025; prior to that, he had held data center infrastructure roles at Meta and Google.
He was also included in The Information's list of key executives in the data center sector.
Last month, NVIDIA agreed to provide $105 billion in credit support for a massive data center in Ohio with a total capacity of 10 gigawatts.
The project is being built by data center developer SB Energy and will serve OpenAI; OpenAI will lease the campus and plans to deploy hundreds of billions of dollars' worth of NVIDIA chips within it.
