Shares of CansinoBio (06185) jumped more than 50% in half a day of trading, driven by positive results from Moderna's (MRNA.US) Phase 3 clinical trial for its mRNA cancer vaccine, according to a report from CLSA.
The INTerpath-001 Phase 3 study, which involved 1,137 patients with high-risk melanoma, showed that the personalized mRNA cancer vaccine intismeran autogene, when combined with pembrolizumab, met both the primary and secondary endpoints of recurrence-free survival (RFS) and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS), with no new safety signals detected. Moderna's shares rose 177% on the news.
This marks the first time an mRNA cancer vaccine or individualized neoantigen therapy has achieved positive results in a Phase 3 trial. CLSA noted that since Moderna is currently conducting clinical studies using the same platform in lung, kidney, and bladder cancers, this success represents a platform-level valuation re-rating.
CansinoBio is positioned along the same technological path. Its rhabdomyosarcoma program is currently in the investigator-initiated trial (IIT) stage, while its glioma program is still awaiting preclinical approval. The company's development pipeline and antigen design are largely aligned with Moderna's approach, with the main difference being its three-component lipid nanoparticle (LNP) system, which is safer than conventional formulations and may support a stronger cellular immune response.
