Wenzhou Unveils 2026 Talent Demand List for Key Industries

The 2026 Wenzhou Key Industry Talent Demand Catalogue has been officially released. Compiled around the city's "5+5" modern industrial system and aligned with the Wenzhou "AI + Manufacturing" typical scenario reference guidelines, the catalogue identifies 210 positions facing talent shortages.

Each role is ranked by a scarcity index ranging from 0 to 1, with categories divided into general shortage (0-0.2), shortage (0.2-0.4), and critical shortage (0.4-1). A higher value indicates a more urgent demand for talent, providing a measurable benchmark for the city's broader talent recruitment strategy.

Among the five traditional pillar industries—electrical equipment, footwear, apparel, automotive parts, and pumps and valves—24 roles are marked as critically scarce. These include electronic automation engineers (0.6071), shoe manufacturing equipment installation and commissioning engineers (0.7922), quality inspectors and quality management engineers (0.6763), quality engineers (0.6979), and valve design engineers (0.6229).

Within the five strategic emerging industries—digital economy, intelligent equipment, life and health, new energy, and new materials—17 positions are classified as critically scarce. Notable examples include digital security engineers (0.6137), regional sales managers (0.7434), biotechnology R&D engineers (0.7068), electrical and electronic R&D engineers (0.6398), and polymer materials R&D engineers.

In the "AI + Manufacturing" application sector, three roles stand out as critically scarce: algorithm engineers, AI architects, and computer vision and intelligent visualization engineers.

Beyond scarcity levels, the catalogue details academic requirements, core competencies, and annual salary ranges for each position. Salary levels generally correlate with scarcity—for instance, algorithm engineers and AI architects in the critically scarce tier command notably higher pay compared to roles like large model application engineers and AI application developers, which fall into the standard shortage category.

This catalogue does not function as a direct job posting, but it offers a clear directional signal for the city's talent priorities. Job seekers can use the scarcity rankings to plan career paths and focus their upskilling efforts, while employers can refine their hiring strategies and connect with talent resources more efficiently.

In addition, Wenzhou has previously launched the "5+5+N" industrial talent attraction map. This navigational tool precisely pairs university talent resources across the country with local industrial needs, integrating data from 310 higher education institutions, 71 cities, and 531 academic majors. Both companies and job seekers can search for candidates or positions by industry, specialty, or region.
