Technology giant Meta Platforms is advancing a new workforce reduction plan, expected to eliminate approximately 200 positions in the San Francisco Bay Area. These layoffs are anticipated to take effect in late May.

According to documents submitted by Meta to California regulatory authorities, all affected roles will be permanently eliminated.

In addition to this recent action, Meta has reportedly cut nearly 700 jobs in recent weeks across various departments, including recruitment, sales, operations, and its Reality Labs division.

A Meta spokesperson commented, "Teams across the company periodically undergo restructuring or adjustments to ensure we are optimally positioned to achieve our goals. We are seeking to identify other opportunities for affected employees where possible."

Concurrently, Meta is significantly increasing its investment in artificial intelligence, with capital expenditures for this year projected to reach up to $135 billion (approximately 930.788 billion RMB at current exchange rates), primarily directed towards AI infrastructure development.

As of the end of 2025, Meta's total workforce stood at approximately 79,000 employees. The company has not indicated whether further workforce reductions are planned.
