September 18, U.S. stocks closed broadly higher as a wave of semiconductor enthusiasm powered a late-session surge. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.62%, the S&P 500 gained 1.14% and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite outperformed with a 1.69% advance. Investors cheered upbeat chip-sector guidance, easing Treasury yields and hopes that the Federal Reserve will maintain its current policy stance at this week’s meeting.

Semiconductors stole the spotlight. Intel leapt 7.67% after unveiling new AI-centric processors, while Advanced Micro Devices climbed 6.36% on reports of strong data-center demand. Micron Technology rallied 5.50% as analysts raised price targets ahead of earnings. Broadcom added 2.29% and NVIDIA rose 2.54% to a fresh four-month high. Marvell Technology jumped 4.81% on 5G optimism, and Oracle gained 5.18% as Wall Street warmed to its cloud prospects. Tesla advanced 2.27% amid growing excitement over its Cybertruck rollout, whereas Lumentum fell 2.81% after a cautious optical-component outlook.

Outside big tech, moves were mixed. United Microelectronics surged 8.61% and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing added 3.00%, echoing the global chip rally, while SanDisk spiked 6.21% on takeover chatter. Energy names lagged despite a steady oil price; Exxon Mobil slipped 0.4% and Chevron edged 0.2% lower. In the travel space, Trip.com dipped 0.17% as investors rotated out of reopening plays. Meme-favorite Rocket Lab soared 6.47% on a successful launch update, but CoreWeave slid 4.16% amid profit-taking.
