On the morning of October 16, the Nonferrous Metals Sub-forum of the 2026 Shanghai Derivatives Market Forum was held at the Shanghai Futures Exchange. The forum, themed "Strengthening Futures-Spot Linkages to Safeguard High-Quality Development of Nonferrous Metals," focused on the deep integration of the nonferrous metals industry and the derivatives market. It conducted in-depth discussions on topics including industry operating conditions and outlook, demand transformation driven by new quality productive forces, corporate hedging practices, and the development of futures-spot integration.
Wei Lai, Deputy Director of the Financial Trading Department at Zijin Mining (Investment) Shanghai Co., Ltd., attended the forum and delivered a speech. Drawing on hedging practices, Wei Lai shared his thoughts on corporate risk management in a complex market environment from three perspectives: changes in the industry, changes in the market, and corporate strategies.
He reviewed the changes in the nonferrous metals industry across resources, supply and demand, industrial chains, and trade. Combining specific cases from the copper and zinc markets, he analyzed the combined risks that companies face in areas such as prices, basis, term structure, exchange rates, and liquidity. He stated that companies should base themselves on their actual operating conditions, identify profit exposure, and reasonably use financial tools to manage risks and stabilize operations.
