Wheat futures in the United States climbed to their highest level in over a week, driven by concerns over potential supply shortages from the key Black Sea grain-producing region following shipping disruptions.

Turkey suspended its vessels' passage through the Black Sea over the past weekend, citing heightened security risks stemming from the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has called for a "pause" on attacks in the region.

This development follows a Friday announcement from Ukraine, which stated that the country's agricultural exports for the 2026-2027 marketing season could decline by more than half compared to previous forecasts, due to Russian attacks. The Ukrainian government, a major global agricultural exporter capable of feeding approximately 400 million people, highlighted the severity of the impact.

The most actively traded wheat contract on the Chicago Board of Trade rose as much as 1.8% on Monday, reaching its highest point since July 30, and lifting the broader grains complex. Hard red winter wheat contracts saw even steeper gains, with the benchmark contract rallying up to 2.4%.
