Global Sovereign Wealth Giant Invests Heavily in China, Ping An Ranks in Top 10

The Government Pension Fund Global (GPFG) of Norway, the world's largest sovereign wealth fund, recently disclosed its latest investment data. The fund reported an investment return of 9.4% for the first half of this year, outperforming its benchmark index by 0.22 percentage points.

As of the end of June, the fund held a total of 658 Chinese stocks, with an aggregate market value exceeding $47 billion. Its top ten holdings in China include Tencent Holdings, Alibaba, CATL, PDD Holdings, China Construction Bank, Luxshare Precision, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Ping An Insurance (Group) Company of China, Ltd., Meituan, and Xiaomi Corporation.

Notably, the GPFG has invested in nine Chinese insurance companies, but only Ping An Insurance (Group) Company of China, Ltd. has secured a spot among its top ten holdings, a position it has maintained for several years. As of the end of June, the fund's total market value of its holdings in Ping An stood at $872 million.

Norges Bank Governor Ida Wolden Bache has publicly stated that the GPFG's investment objective is to achieve the highest possible return at an acceptable level of risk, with equity investments being crucial to the fund's performance. As of June 30, 2026, the GPFG's total assets reached 22,683 billion Norwegian kroner.
