Two Landslides in Fengqing County, Yunnan, Leave Four Missing

Two separate slope collapses occurred on August 23 in Fengshan Town, Fengqing County, Lincang City, Yunnan Province, leaving four people missing, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Natural Resources. In response, the ministry activated a Level IV geological disaster emergency response for Yunnan at 2:00 PM on the same day and dispatched a working group to the site to guide rescue and relief operations. The ministry has also directed the Yunnan Provincial Department of Natural Resources to immediately send an expert task force to the scene to assist local authorities with personnel search efforts and provide technical support during rescue operations. Additionally, local authorities have been urged to conduct thorough geological hazard inspections, strengthen monitoring and early warning systems, and enhance preparedness for similar incidents in the future. The China Geological Survey and the ministry's Geological Disaster Technical Guidance Center have been tasked with coordinating expert deployment, organizing joint consultations, and providing full technical assistance to support the response efforts.
