Hyundai Motor Group has announced a collaboration with the Omani government and local enterprises to introduce hydrogen-powered buses and develop electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the Sultanate. The agreement was formalized on Friday through the signing of memorandums of understanding at the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center in Salalah, involving Oman’s transport ministry and key local partners to advance sustainable mobility solutions.

Under the terms of these agreements, Hyundai is set to deliver the nation's first hydrogen-powered city bus, alongside supporting the establishment of ultra-fast EV charging stations. Oman's state-owned transport operator, Mwasalat, plans to create an eco-friendly public transit route in the capital, Muscat, where it will pilot passenger services using Hyundai's ELEC CITY hydrogen fuel cell bus.

Complementing the public transport initiative, Oman Oil Marketing Company will operate a 240kW ultra-fast EV charger supplied by Hyundai Kefico at one of its fuel stations in Khallban. Following a six-month trial period, OOMCO has the option to broaden its EV charging footprint based on the results.

Hyundai Motor Group said it aims to leverage this strategic partnership to expand its eco-friendly mobility business in Oman, moving from public transportation into the commercial and passenger vehicle segments.
