A potentially major financial loss was averted after police successfully intercepted a parcel containing gold that was being sent to fraudsters. Reflecting on the recent incident where officers persuaded a victim of a telecommunications network scam and recovered gold valued at tens of thousands of yuan, Ning Yanlong, a police officer from the Binhu Police Station of the Qingxiu Branch of the Nanning Public Security Bureau, still feels a sense of relief.

An urgent phone call triggered a race against time for the Binhu Police Station on the day of the incident. The station had previously received an anti-fraud alert indicating that a resident in its jurisdiction was suspected of falling victim to a telecommunications network scam and had already mailed 80 grams of gold to the fraudsters via a courier service.

Upon receiving the tip, Officer Ning Yanlong quickly mobilized auxiliary police officers Mou Zhaohua, Chen Wanming, and Huang Yecheng to initiate an emergency intervention protocol. Ning immediately contacted the courier company. Learning that a return shipment needed to be initiated by the sender themselves, he promptly called the victim. However, the victim, Mr. Wang, had been thoroughly manipulated by the scammers. He not only insisted that he was not being deceived but also refused to disclose his location.

At that moment, the parcel had already arrived at the destination sorting center and was about to enter the delivery phase, creating an extremely urgent situation. Officer Ning and the auxiliary police officers took turns patiently explaining common scam tactics to Mr. Wang, citing real-life examples of similar frauds, and clearly stating that any request to mail gold to a specified address is a hallmark of fraud. After repeated and detailed persuasion, Mr. Wang finally realized the truth.

Guided by the police, Mr. Wang immediately contacted the courier company to apply for a return. The already shipped gold was successfully retrieved, preventing the financial loss in time. The entire process, from receiving the alert to successfully intercepting the gold, took only a few hours.

Following the incident, Mr. Wang personally visited the Binhu Police Station to present a banner to the officers inscribed with the words "Guardians Against Fraud Protect Safety, Recovery Warms the Heart." He expressed his sincere gratitude to the police for promptly helping him recover his loss.

Police remind the public that methods of telecommunications network fraud are constantly evolving. Any request to send valuable items such as cash or gold to a specified location via mail or ride-hailing services is highly likely to be a scam. The public is urged to remain highly vigilant. If encountering any suspicious situation, immediately call 110 or the anti-fraud hotline 96110 to report it. Do not trust instructions from strangers to avoid financial loss.
