Bitcoin's price remained stable above the $64,000 mark during Asian trading hours on Thursday, August 6, 2026, recording a modest intraday gain and a weekly increase of approximately 0.5%. Simultaneously, shares in Elon Musk's aerospace company SpaceX, valued at roughly $101 billion, entered their lockup expiration period on Thursday, drawing significant market attention. According to public records, SpaceX held 18,712 bitcoins as of the end of June, with a market value of about $1.1 billion.

Crypto performance diverged among major digital assets. Ethereum rose over 1% to $1,904, though its seven-day decline remained at 0.7%. Ripple showed relative weakness, falling nearly 3% to $1.04, with a weekly loss of 3%. Binance Coin dropped over 1% to $595, but still posted a 3.5% gain over the past seven days, ranking among the top performers among major currencies. Solana declined nearly 1% to around $74, while Dogecoin fell roughly 1% to 7 cents. Tron remained flat at 33 cents. The Hyperliquid platform token, HYPE, held steady near $56, recording a weekly gain of over 4%, making it the best-performing major token of the week.

Market analysts suggest Bitcoin's short-term momentum is strengthening. FxPro analyst Alex Kuptsikevich noted that Bitcoin has gained upward momentum since the start of the week, with buyers actively entering the market when prices dipped near $62,500, pushing the price back above the 50-day moving average. He further commented that the current market optimism is concentrated on Bitcoin itself rather than the broader market, a characteristic often seen in the early stages of a long-term trend shift.

In equity markets, global risk appetite has receded. The MSCI All-Country World Index ended its five-day winning streak, falling 0.2%, dragged down by weakness in chip stocks on both sides of the Pacific. South Korea's KOSPI index, a bellwether for AI trading, tumbled 4.4%, led by declines in SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics. Futures for the S&P 500 and European equity indices edged slightly higher. In commodities, gold prices extended their rally, rising 0.4% to their highest level since June, as bets on interest rate hikes softened. Geopolitical factors saw Brent crude oil fall below $80 per barrel, following an announcement from Iran that it had reached an agreement with Oman regarding shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz.

SoftBank Group's earnings report, due later on Thursday, is drawing attention. Since September 2024, SoftBank has invested a cumulative $34.6 billion into OpenAI through its Vision Fund 2, while also holding a stake in chip designer Arm. The market will closely watch its performance to assess the actual returns on private-sector investments in the artificial intelligence field.
