Samsung Electronics' Preliminary Results Imminent, Set to Influence Global Semiconductor Stocks

The global semiconductor sector has experienced significant volatility in recent weeks, with investors seeking fresh validation for the artificial intelligence investment theme. The upcoming earnings report from Samsung Electronics, due on Tuesday, may provide just that.

According to a consensus of analyst estimates compiled by media outlets, the world's largest memory chipmaker is projected to post a preliminary operating profit of 84.3 trillion won ($55.1 billion) for the quarter ended June. This figure would represent an eighteenfold increase from the same period a year ago and surpass the company's full-year profit for 2025. Revenue is forecast to surge by 127% to a record 169 trillion won.

Although global chip stocks have just concluded their best quarter on record, the rally encountered turbulence in June. Concerns among investors about intensifying competition, potential overcapacity, and the ultimate payoff from massive AI investments have triggered sharp, intermittent pullbacks. This context makes Samsung's results pivotal for the market, as the high expectations leave little room for disappointment.

Dave Mazza, CEO of Roundhill Financial, noted that the earnings release comes at a time when the market is questioning both supply and demand for memory chips. Meta's plan to sell computing capacity has raised concerns about demand, while Apple's negotiations with Chinese suppliers hint at potential cracks in the supply tightness. An earnings report that meets market expectations would shift the debate in Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.'s favor, he said.

Jung In Yun, CEO of Fibonacci Asset Management Global, stated that the preliminary results will serve as a "key catalyst" for global chip stocks, reflecting indicators such as demand and pricing for high-bandwidth memory chips.

The share price of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. doubled last quarter and has risen over 155% year-to-date. However, in the five trading days up to last Friday, the stock fell nearly 9%, marking its worst week since late March, mirroring the intense fluctuations in global semiconductor shares.

Detailed financial results from Samsung are expected later in July. It is certain that following a powerful rally, investor expectations for the company's earnings are elevated, leaving a very narrow margin for error.
