A new airport is on the horizon for Sichuan, marking a significant step forward in the region's aviation infrastructure. The Deyang Shifang General Airport has entered a critical sprint phase, with overall construction progress having reached 85% and the apron essentially complete, paving the way for its scheduled opening within 2026.

As a Class A1 general airport within the Chengdu metropolitan area, the Deyang Shifang General Airport serves as a cornerstone asset for Shifang's ambition to become a hub for the Chengdu-Chongqing aerospace and smart manufacturing corridor. According to officials overseeing the project's advancement, the apron is now largely finished, and current efforts are concentrated on finalizing the remaining details of this key component.

Spanning a total area of 671 mu (approximately 44.7 hectares), the project features a standard runway measuring 1,200 meters in length and 30 meters in width. The total investment for the initiative stands at roughly 307.95 million yuan. At present, all construction personnel are working against the clock, striving to complete the remaining tasks and meet the demanding project timeline.

Once the Deyang Shifang General Airport and the Meishan Hongya General Airport—both designated as Class A1—become operational, the number of such airports within the Chengdu metropolitan area will grow to five, significantly enriching the general aviation network. This expansion will enable aviation services to more deeply integrate into daily commuting, emergency response, industrial development, and tourism consumption across the region.

The completion of these airports is poised to bolster the Chengdu metropolitan area's position as a core hub for the low-altitude economy in western China, establishing a robust aerial infrastructure that supports high-quality regional growth and opens up new opportunities for the future.
