Investment Opportunities in Sichuan's Power Battery Sector Exceed 230 Billion Yuan with New Catalog Release

A new catalog outlining investment opportunities in Sichuan Province's power battery industry has been officially released, presenting over 121 projects with a combined investment value surpassing 230 billion yuan.

According to the Sichuan Provincial Economic Cooperation Bureau, the catalog was unveiled on the 20th, covering 19 cities and prefectures across the province. It spans the entire value chain of the battery sector, including raw materials, manufacturing equipment, battery cells, modules and PACK systems, battery management systems, and downstream applications such as power, energy storage, and consumer batteries. The catalog also incorporates emerging technology tracks like solid-state batteries and sodium-ion batteries.

Among the 121 projects, 88 are focused on strengthening, supplementing, and extending the industrial chain, 19 involve application scenarios, and 14 relate to resource utilization. Notably, several projects in Chengdu target different segments of the power battery sector, distributed across districts such as Qionglai City and Jintang County.

The Qionglai Economic Development Zone in Chengdu stands out as a hub with a complete industrial chain for power batteries, encompassing cathode and anode materials, separators, and equipment production. Anchored by leading global anode material manufacturers such as Shanghai Putailai and Rongjie Lithium, the zone has cultivated a new energy battery cluster that brings together upstream and downstream enterprises including Suzhou Botao, Guangdong Lingguang, and Jiuyuan Lithium Energy.

Meanwhile, a new-type lithium battery cell and key materials project in Sichuan's Jintang Industrial Park is gathering industry leaders such as Bamo Technology, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited, and Guangzhou Nano. These investments are expected to generate production capacity for 100,000 tons of high-nickel ternary cathode materials, 100,000 tons of lithium iron phosphate cathode materials, and 20,000 tons of carbon-coated aluminum foil.

The upstream segment of the chain focuses on developing high-energy-density cathode materials, battery separators, aluminum-plastic films, copper foil, and precision structural components. The midstream concentrates on battery cells, PACK systems, and battery management systems, while downstream efforts aim to expand recycling applications such as cascade utilization of batteries. The overarching goal is to promote large-scale, intensive development of a circular economy across the entire battery life cycle, establishing the region as the most professionally specialized, comprehensively supported, and competitively strongest hub for high-end new-type lithium batteries and key materials in Southwest China.

Green and low-carbon industries represent a key focus of Chengdu's development strategy. In advanced energy, the city has built complete industrial chains across hydrogen energy, photovoltaics, and lithium batteries, while establishing a distinctive "Made in Chengdu" brand in niche segments such as wind power, nuclear power, gas power, and smart grid equipment. In new materials, Chengdu has formed a relatively comprehensive industrial system spanning advantageous materials, specialty materials, and cutting-edge new materials, with an industry scale that consistently ranks among the top tier nationwide.
