Crude Oil Prices Surge Past $105 Per Barrel as Middle East Conflict Heightens Supply Concerns

Escalating tensions across the Middle East have pushed global supply worries to the forefront, driving Brent crude futures above the $105 per barrel threshold for the first time. The key benchmark extended its upward momentum, building on a rally that had already seen it cross the $100 mark in the previous session for the first time since July. The renewed surge in hostilities over the past week has brought an abrupt end to a period of relative calm in the region.

As market participants grow increasingly concerned about the potential for a prolonged and drawn-out conflict, anxieties over energy-driven inflation have resurfaced with notable intensity. This has propelled sharp gains not only in crude oil but also in natural gas and diesel prices, reflecting a broad-based escalation across the energy complex.

In a show of defiance, Iran has signaled its unwillingness to back down in the face of a US naval blockade, issuing warnings that it will intensify attacks on American assets if its own territory comes under further strike. At the same time, Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen are actively targeting Saudi Arabian installations, compounding the regional instability. Saudi Arabia, in response, has reported a dramatic plunge in its crude production last month, reaching levels not seen since 1990, a stark indicator of the severity of the situation.

These mounting fears of a sustained conflict have provided a powerful tailwind for energy prices. Brent crude has surged by over 70% since the start of the year. Despite this impressive rally, the global benchmark still remains well below its wartime peak of $126 per barrel reached in April, a gap that is attributed in part to a steady flow of crude continuing to exit the Persian Gulf.

At the time of this report, Brent crude futures for November delivery were trading at $105.72 per barrel during the London session at 1:34 p.m., while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures for October delivery had advanced to $100.39 per barrel.
