To enhance public awareness of cybersecurity risks and promote scientific eye care practices, a special公益 activity was held on the morning of September 16. The event took place in the Chengnan Community of Wuxing Street, Tinghu District, Yancheng City, bringing essential services directly to residents.
Organized by the Wuxing Street New Era Civilization Practice Center, in collaboration with the Chengnan Community's New Era Civilization Practice Station, Veterans Service Station, Community Grid Office, Working Committee for Children, and Labor Union, the initiative was jointly held with Yancheng Shuguang Aier Eye Hospital. Under the theme "Safe Internet Use and Free Eye Exams," the event delivered convenient services to residents' doorsteps, offering a warm seasonal greeting to the community.
The venue featured two main service areas: one dedicated to cybersecurity education and another for free eye health screenings. The scene was lively yet orderly. In the educational section, community volunteers and grid staff used real-life case studies and informational pamphlets to explain common online scams, including fraudulent job listings, fake customer service calls, and gaming top-up deceptions. They also shared practical tips on protecting personal information, identifying malicious online content, and preventing internet addiction, encouraging residents to adopt safe and responsible browsing habits.
Meanwhile, in the eye screening area, medical professionals from Aier Eye Hospital brought specialized equipment to offer free vision tests, refractive error checks, eye fatigue assessments, and basic fundus examinations. The screenings focused on identifying common conditions such as myopia, astigmatism, dry eye syndrome, and cataracts. The medical team carefully performed each examination, recorded the data for every participant, and provided tailored advice: educating teenagers on myopia prevention, proper eye use, and responsible screen time; offering middle-aged and elderly residents guidance on preventing age-related eye diseases; and suggesting medical referrals for those who required further care.
"I've been having trouble seeing clearly lately and wanted to visit the hospital, but my children are busy at work and couldn't take me. I never thought I'd get a check-up right at my doorstep today—it's so convenient!" exclaimed an elderly resident named Granny Wu while waiting for her screening.
This event innovatively adopted a dual-service model combining "security protection" with "health care." Not only did it remind residents that excessive use of electronic devices can harm their vision, but it also highlighted potential cybersecurity risks. The initiative effectively boosted residents' ability to guard against online threats while allowing them to access professional eye care services locally, significantly enhancing their sense of safety and well-being.
Looking ahead, the Chengnan Community plans to continue organizing regular public service activities, enriching their offerings and diversifying their formats. By consistently promoting cybersecurity awareness and eye health education, the community aims to comprehensively safeguard residents' digital safety and visual health, fostering a secure, healthy, and civilized living environment.
