The three major Chinese airlines saw collective gains in their share prices. As of the time of writing, China Southern Airlines (01055) rose 3.21% to HK$6.11; China Eastern Airlines (00670) increased 2.38% to HK$5.59; and Air China (00753) was up 2.1%, trading at HK$7.3. On the news front, data from the Ministry of Transport indicated that total air passenger volume during the New Year holiday period reached 5.976 million person-times, marking a 13% year-on-year increase. Furthermore, air traffic across the country was expected to reach 2.08 million passengers on January 3, representing a substantial 21.8% growth compared to the same period last year. Huayuan Securities suggests that looking ahead, third-quarter performance could potentially serve as a catalyst for a sustained upward trend. Current conditions, including steady yet sustainable demand growth, tight constraints on both existing and new supply, improving cost conditions due to fuel and foreign exchange factors, and an industry-wide consensus against excessive internal competition, are forming clear positive trends, recommending investors consider positioning early.
