Singapore has asked Apple to intensify efforts in combating scams on its iMessage platform, where fraudsters impersonate government agencies to deceive users. Such SMS scams have long plagued unsuspecting smartphone users.
In recent years, the Singaporean government has urged Apple and Alphabet (Google's parent company) to collaborate in reducing the spread of fraudulent messages.
The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that authorities have directed Apple and Alphabet to prevent criminals from sending impersonation messages via iMessage and Google Messages platforms.
