Xiaomi founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun announced the start of a long-range endurance live stream for the new Xiaomi SU7, traveling from Beijing to Shanghai. The journey covers 1,265 kilometers with only one planned charging stop. The approximately 15-hour broadcast attracted significant attention, with topics such as "Lei Jun calls the live stream extreme and crazy" and "Lei Jun responds to whether Xiaomi will produce cars under 100,000 yuan" trending on social media platforms.

By the time of reporting, Lei Jun's team had reached a service area in Linyi, Shandong, having completed 630 kilometers. The remaining battery level was 3%, with an energy consumption of 15.2 kWh per 100 kilometers.

The long-distance test was scheduled to continue until around 10 p.m. on April 17. Xiaomi's Vice President of Automotive R&D, Cui Qiang, served as the driver, while Lei Jun conducted the live stream from the passenger seat. Xiaomi's General Manager of Public Relations, Xu Jieyun, was also present.

Lei Jun described the lengthy live stream as "extreme and crazy," noting that the pressure to avoid making any verbal missteps was his biggest psychological burden, as mistakes could be seized upon by critics. He addressed being labeled a "marketing master," suggesting that the tag is often used with ulterior motives—seemingly a compliment but actually an attempt to discredit by implying that Xiaomi's success is due to marketing rather than product quality. Lei Jun emphasized that Xiaomi's executive team places great importance on product quality, safety, testing, and standards.

He mentioned that over the past year, Xiaomi has been affected by negative public sentiment. Remaining silent for fear of criticism, he said, could lead to further misunderstandings among the public. Therefore, since the beginning of this year, he has decided to step forward and carefully introduce Xiaomi's products to improve public understanding.

When asked by a viewer if Xiaomi plans to launch a car model priced below 100,000 yuan, Lei Jun stated that the company has no such plans for the next few years. He explained that Xiaomi aims to rank among the top five automakers globally and contribute to the advancement of China's automotive industry toward higher-end segments. As intelligent features in electric vehicles increase costs, it is challenging to keep prices under 100,000 yuan. Lei Jun summarized that Xiaomi will not produce trucks, RVs, or supercars within the next five years, and will not launch a Redmi-branded car or any model under 100,000 yuan within the next decade.

During a discussion about the SU7's wireless karaoke function, Xu Jieyun mentioned that "Lei has a famous single." Lei Jun humorously declined to perform, citing limited singing skills and joking that he feared losing the audience if he sang.

Multiple topics related to the live stream trended highly on social media, with many netizens expressing support for Lei Jun's efforts.

Data shows that in March, Xiaomi delivered over 20,000 vehicles in total. The new SU7, which began deliveries on March 23, achieved more than 7,000 deliveries within nine days, averaging nearly 800 units per day.
