Falling oil prices supported European equities, with Euro Stoxx 50 futures rising 0.7%, while the index's cash market closed 0.4% lower on Thursday.

Reports that the United States and Iran are discussing a phased agreement aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz pushed oil prices lower.

The MSCI Asia-Pacific index gained 0.4%, led by Japanese stocks. U.S. equity futures held steady.

Lower energy prices offered relief to German and UK government bond futures.

Treasury yields fell across all maturities, with shorter-dated yields outperforming after the curve steepened sharply on Thursday.

The dollar spot index was flat, holding near a two-month high.

Japan's finance minister said U.S. President Trump expressed concern about yen weakness, making the yen the top gainer among G10 currencies.

Precious metals came under pressure, with spot gold down 0.2%, while Bitcoin fell 0.3%.
