According to a report published on Thursday, the former spouse of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, MacKenzie Scott, accounted for over a third of the largest charitable contributions in the United States in 2025.
Data provided by the U.S. philanthropic organization Giving USA and the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy reveals that MacKenzie Scott, former wife of Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos, donated approximately $7 billion in 2025. This brings her total charitable giving over the past five years to $26.2 billion. These funds have been directed to thousands of non-profit organizations dedicated to causes such as housing, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), disaster recovery, and numerous other initiatives.
The data indicates that total charitable donations in the United States reached a record $617.2 billion in 2025, marking a 5.7% increase from the previous year.
Other major donors in 2025 included Michael Bloomberg ($4.3 billion), Bill Gates ($3.7 billion), Warren Buffett ($1.34 billion), and Susan and Michael Dell (nearly $1 billion).
