Newmont Corp's stock surged 5.05% during intraday trading on Friday, marking a significant upward movement for the mining company.
The rally follows news that the Canadian government has committed CA$500 million in financial support for Newmont's domestic Red Chris Cave project. The company is completing a definitive feasibility study for the project, which is expected to extend the life of the current Red Chris mine by approximately 14 years.
According to the company, the Red Chris Block Cave project is forecast to create over 1,800 jobs during construction, sustain up to 1,500 peak-season operational roles, and boost Canada's copper production by an estimated 15%.
