According to informed sources, the US Department of Commerce has granted approval for OpenAI to widely release its advanced GPT 5.6 model.
Reports indicate that, following additional testing and meetings between the company and government officials, OpenAI is expected to launch GPT 5.6 broadly this week.
Last month, OpenAI stated that, in response to a US government request, it would postpone the full public release of GPT-5.6, initially permitting only a small group of vetted partners—whose details were shared with authorities—to use the AI model.
